Hi Guys
I have just got an 4.2 n/a auto toyota amazon 1985 which I hope to use engine, autobox and axles off for an offroad buggy. The 4 wheel drive is not working on this truck but was told there is a sensor/switch on the tbox to activate 4x4, which is not working.
Any suggestions where I might download a w/s manual for this truck?
Any second hand parts suppliers doing bits for these trucks?

Hi twofish,
Factory mauals will become available to you after 20 posts, these cover the 60 series.
Have a look in the 40 series tech section for parts suppliers as some or the suppliers also do parts for the 60 series.

Gday Twofish, nice name. and welcome to the forum .
4.2 n/a auto toyota amazon 1985
no 1985 models had 4.2
sure its not 4 litre?
or newer?
Amazon i dont think was a name used back then either.
throw in the chassis number into www.toyodiy.com and it should tell you exactly what the machine is. and what engine shoulda been in it originally.
Amazons are a 100series is that right?
sorry i dont know about automagicboxes

The Amazon name was introduced in 96 with the release of the 90 series. It was to distinguish between 90 series vx(colorado) and 80/100 series vx(amazon)

Thanks for the info, I only bought the truck yesterday, and was told by the seller the engine was 4.2, not that it matters really, as I love the sound of straight six engines anyway. this truck has a battered body but only 80K miles genuine (one owner) on it.

I see you have your vehicle down as a Fj60 which would mean it is 4.2 petrol. Body panels can be got.
It would be a shame to use the running gear for an off road buggy. I would love a 60 series.
It would be well worth restoring as a tidy 60 can fetch good money here.
Is it suffering from rust or is it just dented?
Have a look here (http://www.euro4x4parts.com/)

I'll have to run the serial no to find out what the truck is tomorrow, I googled it yesterday and it looked like the FJ60. It has a diesel straight 6 naturally aspirated, onto an auto box, it has selectable 4 wheel drive as well, Truck is off a farm where it was used offroad only, so ... wings, doors, really all panels inc bonnet are dented/ bashed, all lights except head lights are gone too, interior isnt too bad, I'll post a few pics tomorrow as well.

If its diesel its a 4.0 Hj60 unless it had a transplant at some stage in its life. Dented and bashed is a good start, anything is better than rust.
All them parts are easily got and not to expensive either.

+1 on that, bit rare to chop up for a buggy!

One owner and 80k miles? Looks like it was used in anger for most of them miles, despite all the knocks it doesn't look very rusty.
Whats the floor and chassis like?

I stand corrected
The HJ60's floors and chassis are good, everything works inside as well except fag lighter. Drivers door is opening and closing fine but has loads of rust in it

The owner had a company which went burst, truck was too expensive to tax ( private) so was used on the farm, Even though all panels are dented running gear inc brakes are working, before I got it ti had stood for five years without moving, a pair of batteries, fuel and a prime and off it went!! engine really purrs.

The door will prob need to be replaced, if you were able to straighten out one panel every week by summer that would be a nice truck!

I would agree with nailer this would make a nice machine if you had the skills to get it done.... it would be outside of my skill set. best of luck with it whatever you decide.
