Hey folks,
Steve here from Louth. I joined some time ago but didn't get around to posting till now.
I have two "Cruisers", a 91 LJ78 Auto and a 92 LJ78 Wide manual. I use the 92 as a daily driver and am in the process of rebuilding the 91 as it's "a minter" (150,000km)
2.4 lte engine shot and being replaced by a Kzt (need a drive plate if anyone has one) Will put up pictures as soon as I work out how.

Thanks for the quick welcome
A "drive" or "flex" plate connects the crank to the torque convertor (ie takes the place of a flywheel on an Auto)

stunned @ the speed of reply to my intro and have to say this appears to be a well run forum.
Garfieldus, was just wondering if you had any thoughts on the value of doing the lte to kzt conversion?

I was in it for the first time over christmas.
A bit small compared to what im used to but I doubt I seen all of it in 30min.

The track is a work in progress at the moment and yes there is scope for improvement, but he does have approx. 200 acres of wood/hill/rock/water to play with. The owner is a personal friend and I was wondering if you would be interested in talking to him and maybe making some suggestions?

I had a 2.4 LJ70 and it was a snail, that was why I put the 3.0L engine into it. Rommel is also 3.0 and until today I had forgotten how slow and under powered the 2.4 is. Today I drove a 2.4 for the first time in a couple of years and if I were to say that the difference is like....

you'll get the picture. Take a drive in a KZJ7x and you'll get the picture.

Thanks for the input with respect to the engine swap, I take it you might think this is a good idea then.
I particularly like the way you tried to remain objective and hold a warm place in your heart for "the snail."
No rose coloured glasses (or bloodshot eyes ) in your neck of the woods.

wrong thread lol. Steve howya, good to have you onboard. the 2.4s are underpowered, but still a lovely car. i believe all the Bj40s were slow on hills too and they were forgiven

Hey Redd,
how are things in the Republic of Munster, (I'm living in exile here in Louth) yeah the BJ's were all the things the LJ is but you did have the option to drive with no doors, roof or windscreen without being hauled off by "Templemore's finest". They didn't feel so slow 'cuse the other stuff didn't move as fast as it does now and there wasn't as much of it on the roads.
Speaking of which, is it on me or is there a massive amount of Solihull crap on the roads now, Christ it's like driving in England.
I think prosperity turned us into wanna-be Brits.

I don't think I would be best to design an off road course as I am crap at green laning.
I think Eddie knows a few guys local to there that would have a more sensible approach than I would.

i was living in England last year, you cant move over there for discos and freelanders. seriously, we're lucky theres a moderate amount here.
i never owned one, theyre probably comfortable and theyre quite clever, just prone to breakdown from what ive read. it is nice to drive a reliable car, i was buying a fourtrak or a cruiser so i suppose i did some homework at the time and its worked out well.
things in munster are good, everybodys keeping well :) im inland here, egging to go camping in the burren or similar, change of scenery

Eddie does have a couple guys giving advice but advice should be sought from everyone and counsel taken from few.

I did live in England for a while and I know what you mean about being lucky, but relatively speaking the numbers of Landys on Irish roads have gone up in the recent past. I have never owned one myself, went close twice but was put off by people with experience. Considered nice to drive and travel in, but very unreliable. I think the quote was "buy one an' ye'll have a yoke forever 'cause no one will buy it off ya"
I've owned a Wrangler, a Pajero, a couple of Troopers, VW transporter Synchro and still own a CJ7. I was going to buy a Disco this time(family reasons) but was spared when the Cruiser came up. I have to say I am very impressed with the build quality, considering the 78 is 20 years old, and any esperience I had with Toyota cars in the past was negative, indeed most rusted while I was looking at them and were bland to drive.
