Hello people, I am delighted that there is an irish landcruiser owners club at last.
I am a pretender until further notice,i do not own a landcruiser, but jaysus,i love them.
i had a nice crewcab hilux,now sold,wah.
I will have a bj40 and a 60 series amazon at some stage,as i think they are the best.
I will pop in from time to time to see whats going on.
Mighty job

BJ40 has a 3litre "B" engine, no power steering, 4speed gbox, drum brakes
BJ42 tend to have 3.4litre "3B" engine (daddy of the current D4D i think) power steering, 5speed gbox (up to 90kmph!!) and disk brakes up front.
the engines in these were built by Diahatsu and are normally fairly good and can be modded for turbo fitment.
theres some decent info about the engines on Wiki

Its still a BJ40 just the rest of the model code is something like BJ40RV-K and BJ40RV-KJ though these are post 1980.
Theres a few variations of the front grill panels. Which are pre 1980 me thinks.
I cannae get the pictures on www.toyodiy.com. But you're in the south so you should be able to get the pictures. You can play a round in it to get the particular front grill your interested in.

i have driven a red 82 bj42 new zeland import in ireland. lovely machine
Slight differences include.........(larger engine 2B) key stopping of engine, fully floating rear axle with lsd. larger wheels and a bench seat in the front. front doors have fly windows. there is no 5 speed gearbox or power steering on this version and it has drum brakes all round. I think the canadian models got the exclusive tretment on this side of the world and the rest of us did without the pleasures mentioned. The very late models may have had the 3B but i think it was dictated by emissions regulations rather than performance.
